As part of our commitment to climate initiatives, 20,000 native trees (oak, holly and hazel) have been planted at a selected site in Ardnacrusha, Co. Clare.

This initial planting represents the first step in our journey to plant 600,000 native trees across the island of Ireland alongside the Nature Trust. A number of AXA staff members, including Damien Harnett (Limerick) as well as Catherine Burke and Sinead Kearns (Galway), were on site as we broke ground on our first site.

Damien Harnett, an Insurance Advisor from AXA’s nearby Limerick branch, said: “We are delighted that the first site to be planted is local to Clare and Limerick. This is an exciting project that brings efforts to combat climate change to life and reflects our customers’ desire to play a more active role in helping address climate change. What makes this project even more exciting is that this is not a one-off, AXA will plant a total of 600,000 trees throughout Ireland over the coming year”.

Philip Bradley, CEO AXA Ireland, said: “There is a huge consumer appetite to address the issue of climate change and we want to work with our customers to help them to do so. From the perspective of scale and infrastructure, there are things we can do as a large company which would be much more difficult for individual consumers to do so this is an example of how we can work with customers to achieve a shared goal at no additional cost to those customers.”

The initiative is part of a broader climate action programme being undertaken by AXA Group and aligns with the targets set out in the Paris Climate Agreement.
