It might seem odd when we remind ourselves that not so many decades ago, jobs such as a car salesman or laptop technician were new to the market. In 2018, as the world of technology advances, so too are the types of jobs that exist. We’ve compiled a list of 10 jobs that weren’t around in 2008. It may not seem all that long ago but if we heard then that these would be positions up for grabs now, some of them we would never have believed!
1. Airbnb Host
Who’d have thought in the past that you could advertise a room in your home or indeed your entire property for people to stay in and pay for online without being a traditional bed and breakfast? Founded in San Francisco in 2008, Airbnb has over four million listings across 191 countries.
2. Drone Operator
Love them or hate them, drones are becoming a more integral part of our world and are being used for a variety of different purposes. Most often used in photography and videography for capturing images of idyllic landscapes, drones can also be used for educational purposes and mapping, for example. Their uses seem to keep evolving which is why it's no surprise it’s a job now too.

3. Influencer
This is quite a broad category but it refers to those who have the power to influence people's purchasing decisions based on their knowledge of a particular subject. They can appear in the form of celebrities, bloggers, vloggers, content creators and thought leaders. They can usually be found across social media platforms with oodles of followers.
4. Cryptocurrency Analyst
The advent of cryptocurrency in 2009 has led to a myriad of jobs such as Cryptocurrency PR Manager or Cryptocurrency Data Engineer. For those of you who have no idea what it’s all about, think digital cash system.
5. Cloud Computing Specialist
There was a time when hearing about the cloud seemed like people were talking about something otherworldly. Now, experts deal with computer services being provided and accessed over the internet such as data storage, for example, rather than via a local server or PC.
6. Social Media Manager
Between Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, Snapchat and Twitter, we’ve watched social media take on a life of its own over the last decade. As a result, positions such as this have emerged to keep up with the pace of digital trends and now many businesses and organisations require these services.

7. AI Programmer
As we’re seeing, developments in Artificial Intelligence are continuing to rapidly advance and jobs in the sector are responding to that. It’s predicted attractive positions in this area are inevitable in the future such as AI Architect.
8. Millennial Generational Expert
It’s fair to say that we didn’t see this coming but it is a job and it exists. Some companies have hired experts who understand the professional expectations and desires of millennials in order to adapt to a workforce of a different generation who have a different way of doing things.

9. Data Scientist
This is a role which has been around for some time but big data is what’s in vogue at the moment due to the increased use of the internet in day-to-day living. The role, which involves the analysis and interpretation of data, seems likely to become an increasingly important one as it’s expected the amount of data generated online will continue to rise. According to the research, there were over 7 billion conversations taking place on Facebook Messenger every day last year, which gives an idea of the volume being created on just one platform.
10. User Experience Director
Like it sounds, this position is all about a user’s experience of a product or service. They’re heavily involved in the overarching experience of the customer with a brand, providing input throughout the process from design to marketing. They essentially represent the customer, making sure they have a smooth and enjoyable overall experience.
